Total-Body Mole Mapping

How Our Technology is Revolutionising Traditional Dermatology

Why is Using Cutting-Edge Technology in Dermatology is So Important?

By using the latest technology in dermatology, we can sometimes make an immediate diagnosis, all whilst being pain-free and extremely reliable! This in turn allows our patients to receive the treatment they need faster.

We are leading consultants offering world-class dermatology that is painless, non-invasive, and extremely effective. Our cutting-edge technology combined with our internationally renowned team provides an exceptional standard of care to our patients. Our approach enables painless, non-invasive, and rapid results that save patients from the costs and scarring of unnecessary biopsies.

Other mole check services run by non-dermatologists may only provide a physical biopsy as a means of diagnosis. We find this approach to incur unnecessary scarring, costs, time, and anxiety for patients. What sets us apart from other skin clinics in the UK is that all skin examinations are carried out by one of our consultant dermatologists. Our mission is to revolutionise traditional dermatology by using the latest technology in dermatology, which ensures a better experience for our patients. However, if your dermatologist believes a procedure is appropriate, we do have a theatre on-site where your dermatologist will personally excise it and send it for histopathology.

The Latest Generation Dermatoscope for Painless & Effective Mole Checks

Digital dermoscopy is a hand-held instrument that our consultant dermatologists use to examine suspicious moles, lesions, as well as many other skin conditions. Dermoscopy is a noninvasive method that allows the in vivo evaluation of colors and microstructures of the epidermis, the dermoepidermal junction, and the papillary dermis not visible to the naked eye. These structures are specifically correlated to histologic features. In other words, the doctor can sometimes provide an immediate diagnosis without the need for a physical biopsy! We can therefore save our patients the time, scarring, costs, and anxiety associated with an unnecessary procedure.

Its incredible magnification power when placed on the skin gives the doctor a window into the skin. The images are digitally stored and compared with future consultations. The dermatoscope is safe for pregnant women, children, and even inflamed skin. By using the latest generation dermatoscope, your dermatologist will have an immediate idea as to the health of your skin. The dermatoscope produces results that are rapid, painless, and extremely reliable. This is how we ensure a better experience for our patients, as well as provide a definitive diagnosis for patients seeking a reliable second opinion.

Total Body Mapping (TBM) to Track Your Moles over Time

You may also opt for total body mapping (TBM) at your mole check. TBM is a remarkable machine that takes detailed images of the person’s entire body, thus creating an accurate record of their skin over time. The cutting-edge software in combination with our consultant dermatologists can detect any changes in moles at each annual mole check. This technology is ideal for people with a high number of freckles or moles, or who have had a previous skin cancer diagnosis. Annual TBM is the best way to keep your skin monitored for skin cancer. Melanoma and other skin cancers respond very well to treatment if detected at the early stages. Therefore, TBM can help catch changes as soon as possible, thus preventing mortality.

Benefit from our technology’s remarkable potential to take your time to know from weeks to minutes.

The Value of Total-Body Skin Examinations for Skin Cancer

Understanding the Recent Publication by the British Journal of Dermatology (BJD)

The incidence of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers has been increasing over the past decades. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), between 2 and 3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and 132,000 melanoma skin cancers occur globally each year. Therefore, would it be prudent to perform total-body skin examinations for skin cancer for patients who see a dermatologist for non-skin cancer reasons?

Performing Total-Body Skin Examinations to Non-Skin Cancer Related Patients

This recent study published in the British Journal of Dermatology studied the cost and time associated with performing total-body skin examinations for skin cancer to patients who came to the dermatologist for non-skin cancer related reasons.  Whilst it is common for patients with a prior skin cancer diagnosis to receive a total-body examination, this is not the case for patients who see the dermatologist for other conditions such as acne.

What did they find?

The results suggest that performing these exams on older patients with light skin tones was more likely to detect skin cancers, even if patient had come in for a different skin complaint.

Thus, targeting older patients with light skin tones for total-body examinations is a better use of physician and patient time, and can help detect skin cancer at the earliest possible stage.

Putting this Research into Action: Our Total-Body Skin Examinations Provide Ultra-Modern Mole Checking & Skin Cancer Detection

All of our mole checks are carried out by highly specialised consultant dermatologists. The consultant dermatologist personally examines the patient and selects which moles need to have more detailed monitoring.

Dermoscopy: Revolutionising Mole Diagnoses in Dermatology

We use the latest technology in dermatology to visualise moles and lesions in ways superior to traditional methods. This includes the latest-generation dermatoscope, which is able to visualise the in vivo evaluation of colours and microstructures of the epidermis, the dermoepidermal junction, and the papillary dermis not visible to the naked eye. These structures are specifically correlated to histologic features. This non-invasive method is sometimes able to provide an immediate diagnosis, saving our patients the pain, scarring, anxiety, and costs associated with a physical biopsy. However, if your dermatologist believes a biopsy to be appropriate, we have an on-site theatre where your dermatologist will personally excise any suspicious moles, and provide a detailed histopathological analysis from the laboratory.

Results are stored digitally to establish a baseline for future observation. Patients will receive a systematic full body dermoscopy examination. We take digital dermoscopic images of some moles, and compare them at future consultations.

Total-Body Mapping:

You may also opt for total body mapping (TBM) at your mole check. This technology is ideal for people with a high number of freckles or moles, or who have had a previous skin cancer diagnosis. This remarkable technology takes images of your entire skin from head-to-toe. TBM keeps an accurate record of your skin over time. The cutting-edge software in combination with a consultant dermatologist dramatically increases the likelihood of catching changes at each annual mole check.

Melanoma and other skin cancers respond well to treatment when caught early. Our non-invasive, painless technology can detect skin cancer at the earliest possible stage. We give patients peace of mind knowing that their skin is being continuously monitored by leading dermatologists and the most advanced technology for dermatology in the UK. Do airline pilots have higher rates of melanoma

Do airline pilots have higher rates of melanoma?

Do airline pilots and cabin crew have raised risks of melanoma?

A systematic and meta-analyses recently published in the British Journal of Dermatology showed that airline pilots and cabin crew have twice the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers than the general population, with pilots more likely to die from melanoma.

In response to the above-mentioned study, we are currently offering a 15% discount in all our skin inspection services to the airline sector.

We provide a world-class, painless, non-invasive skin inspection that ensures a better experience for our patients.

Mole Check by a Qualified Dermatologist

Unlike many private clinics that offer mole checks run by non-dermatologists, all our examinations are carried out by specialists with expertise in skin cancer examination.

Our technology includes a digital dermoscopy and total body-mapping capability. The dermatoscope is a state-of-the-art hand-held device that visualises moles and lesions better than the naked eye, all whilst being reliable and pain-free. Dermoscopy can sometimes provide a diagnosis without the need for a physical biopsy which saves our patients the pain, scarring, and costs associated with an unnecessary biopsy. Total body mapping takes images of the entire skin surface, and saves them for future comparison. By keeping an accurate record of your skin over time, our consultant dermatologist can catch changes at the earliest possible stage. Our world-class technology provides a non-invasive skin inspection that is reliable, rapid, and painless.
